Preparing Your RV for a Freeze
Published December 10, 2024
Winter weather in Texas can be unpredictable. When a freeze hits you want your RV to be ready. Here's everything you need to do to winterize your travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome before temperatures drop.
1. Drain all water lines. Fresh water tank, gray tank, black tank, and water heater — all of it needs to be empty.
2. Add RV-safe antifreeze. Pump non-toxic pink antifreeze through the lines until you see it come out of every faucet and the toilet.
3. Bypass the water heater. Otherwise you'll waste several gallons of antifreeze filling the tank.
4. Disconnect and store the battery indoors if possible, or at minimum disconnect the negative terminal.
5. Cover or remove anything that could freeze and crack — soaps, shampoos, canned drinks left in cabinets.
Not sure if you got it all? Bring your RV by the service department at Howdy RV — we'll winterize it for you the right way.
