Avoiding Mosquitos in Your RV
Published July 18, 2024
If you've ever camped in Texas during the summer you know mosquitos are basically the unofficial state bird. Here's how to keep them out of your RV and off your skin.
1. Check your screens. Tiny tears in window or door screens are the most common way mosquitos get inside. Inspect them before every trip and patch any holes with mesh repair tape.
2. Use a screen on the entry door. Many RVs come with one — and if yours doesn't, an aftermarket magnetic screen door is a cheap, effective upgrade.
3. Run a fan. Mosquitos are weak fliers. A box fan at the doorway or near your outdoor seating area will keep them away surprisingly well.
4. Light a citronella candle or two — and keep a Thermacell on hand for serious bug nights.
5. Empty standing water around your site. Even a small puddle in a bucket can become a breeding ground in 48 hours.
Follow these steps and you'll spend a lot less time scratching and a lot more time enjoying the campfire.
